2008 Non-Traditional Rowing Programs
Sponsorship Opportunities
Your contributions directly benefit young people and adults in the Northwest that otherwise would not have the opportunity to experience the wonders of rowing. Your sponsorship helps put new rowers on the water to explore the sport of rowing as they exercise, learn valuable life skills, work together as a team and see their city from a different perspective.

Recent community partnership rowing programs include:
- The Access Rowing Team
- Girls’ Row Event.
- Lakeside Education and Enrichment Program (LEEP).
- The Orion Center Rowing Camps.
- Zion Preparatory Academy P.E. Rowing and Boating.
- Technology Access Foundation’s Learn to Row Camp.
- The Seattle Parks Department’s Special Populations Team.
- and more partnerships to come….
WHY ROWING?
- Rowing has proven to be an effective vehicle for teaching and learning life skills such as self-reliance, team work, leadership, communication and courage to try something new and different.
- · Everyone can benefit from exercise, belonging to a positive peer community, and participating in the ultimate team sport experience, but not everyone has easy access to that experience. Our programs are designed to overcome obstacles to rowing such as cost, water comfort and swimming ability, transportation, clothing, and availability of adaptive devices.
- · Rowing creates opportunities for individuals to feel a necessary part of something larger. Experience being an integral part of a team and a community is the first step toward inspiring hopeful individuals and dedicated citizens.
WHY POCOCK ROWING?
The George Pocock Rowing Foundation’s Non-Traditional (Outreach) Program has been helping Seattle residents in need to find hope, community, inner strength, and inspiration since 1996. In 2006, over 300 adults and young people participated in a variety of rowing experiences. From homeless and under-served youth who use our rowing programs as a vehicle for learning life skills, to adults with physical and developmental disabilities who love being part of their own team, Pocock Outreach is working to eliminate the barriers to access many people face and create an opportunity for every person in our community to get out on the water. In 2007, we are directing our efforts toward assisting Northwest rowing organizations to create and expand non-traditional programs in their boathouses. This is where your support will help us grow and expand rowing programs for non-traditional participants.
