Give the Gift of Rowing Any Time of Year!

The George Pocock Rowing Foundation is pleased to announce a new program in development for 2008: an Access-based Junior Crew program. Many Seattle-area teenagers would love to enjoy the sport of crew, but have major obstacles that keep them from experiencing the wonders of rowing. Many can’t swim, can’t afford the expenses such as dues, regatta fees, and travel expenses, don’t have transportation to boathouses, or their families don’t have the needed understanding of rowing to allow their involvement.  As a result, they miss out on a life-changing opportunity, and the rowing community misses out on them.

Beginning in the 2008-2009 school year, the Access Rowing Team will be the first NW program of its kind launched to help young people overcome these barriers. A year-long novice program with greatly reduced fees, we will work with 20 young men and women helping them learn to swim, get comfortable on the water, row, and race. Our program will then help participants to transfer into existing varsity programs where they can continue to row throughout high school and be assets to our rowing community.

  • $25 Provides regatta entry fees for one participant at a local regatta

  • $50 Pays regatta expenses for one participant to attend The Junior Regionals

  • $100 Gives a quality racing uniform, water bottle, and rain jacket to one participant helping them to perform to their best potential.

  • $150 Pays for one student’s regatta entry fees and related travel expenses for the year, making attendance at Junior Regionals and several other area regattas possible.

  • $300 provides daily assistance for transportation to crew practices for a full school year for one participant

  • $500 Provides swimming

You can give meaningful gifts for any occasion while helping these young people get out on the water by choosing to support the Access Rowing Team. Your tax-deductible donation as a gift in someone’s name can support one of the following opportunities:

For each gift you purchase in someone’s name, we will send a personalized craft-paper card detailing the gift you have selected for them and how it will serve our community’s young people. Each card will feature a photograph from one of our access rowing programs and an insert describing the Access Rowing Team. There will be room for you to personalize the gift with your signature and note.
